Pigs might fly! Whales in the sky!

This year’s KiteFest in Redcliffe is bigger, better and brighter than ever as a kaleidoscope of colourful kites is set to adorn the air and delight onlookers.

Kites aren’t the only stars of this show. The vivacious Emma Memma (formerly the first female Wiggle and now a star in her own right) will have the kids dancing as she headlines a program jam-packed with family fun and entertainment.

As well as world-class acrobatic kite flying, families can enjoy delicious food, market stalls, carnival rides, live music and special zones dedicated to activities for kids, including the Hot Wheels Fun Zone.

City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery highlighted the importance of this signature Redcliffe kite festival event to the whole community.

“KiteFest Redcliffe not only generates a considerable economic contribution for the City of Moreton Bay but stands as a beacon of joy and family fun for both locals and visitors alike,” he said.

“Each year, it draws in more and more residents and tourists to experience the wonders of Moreton Bay and is a highlight of Council’s commitment to providing enriching, family-friendly events and fostering a vibrant community spirit.”

Redcliffe KiteFest Origin Story

Redcliffe KiteFest

This now iconic event had humble origins as a Redcliffe Kite Club annual event.

Mick Dillon, President of Kites Queensland (formerly Redcliffe Kite Club) said they started the kite festival about 35 years ago but it grew to the point where the club couldn’t afford all the security fencing and insurance that was needed.

“We went to the local council who came onboard,” Mick said. “They do a wonderful job and it grows every year.

“We put a message out on our Redcliffe kite festival Facebook page to invite our national and overseas connections, so there are many different types of kites.

“Some of the kites are phenomenal. There is a life-size humpback whale, a sperm whale, a 35-metre crocodile and many more.

“No matter how young or old you are, everyone loves to fly a kite.”

Gather friends and family to enjoy wholesome fun both in the sky and on the ground at this stellar event.
