In providing more than just fabulous entertainment over the last 15 years, Redcliffe Musical Theatre (RMT) has been a cornerstone of the local arts scene and a source of inspiration and support for so many.

The theatre group has offered performance and training opportunities for numerous talents (many of them young people). It has also provided an outpouring of charitable donations (giving hundreds of free tickets to nursing homes, outpatients and families across the region).

Madeline Johns, founding member and current president of RMT, said that it was her vision that drove the development of a once fledgling theatre company into the hub of creativity that audiences know and love today.

“We wanted to offer the opportunity to locals to see high-quality, affordable music theatre and to include youth in our productions,” Ms Johns said.

She said there had been over 30 main stage productions performed by RMT at the Redcliffe Entertainment Centre (REC), including Mary Poppins, the Queensland community theatre premiere of Wicked, Mamma Mia, the Phantom of the Opera and The Wizard of Oz.

Over 60,000 patrons have seen the theatre company’s shows (over $1.6 million in total ticket sales), but a boost is now needed to avoid any chance of a final curtain call in the future.

An ideal way for members of the public to show their support (as well as patronising the ongoing scheduled performances) would be by attending RMT’s upcoming 15-year celebration this month, Magic of Musicals.

“We plan to showcase a number from each of the major productions that we have performed at the REC in our 15-year celebration, and we hope to see you there,” Ms Johns said.

Ms Johns reinforced the vital role of musical theatre in the cultural life of the community, especially in “helping audiences connect with characters and their experiences on a profound level.”

“We need your support to keep going – just come and see what we do and how we engage with so many in our community, especially youth,” she said.
