A new cancer care centre close to Redcliffe Hospital and Qscan clinics means patients will have access to comprehensive cancer services without needing to leave the Peninsula.
On 22 October, cancer care provider GenesisCare invited community representatives to visit the site of their new development at 6 Silvyn Street, Redcliffe.
Local Leaders Welcome Improved Access to Treatment
Federal Member for Petrie, Emma Comer, State Member for Redcliffe, Kerri-Anne Dooley, former cancer patient and current member of GenesisCare’s Consumer Advisory Committee, John Dowling, GenesisCare representatives, community members, and other stakeholders attended to witness the progress at the new site, which aims to provide cancer care to over 450 patients each year once fully operational.
GenesisCare Radiation Oncologist and Medical Director of Queensland, Dr Marie Burke OAM, said that accessing care close to home can be critical for cancer patients who are faced with so many emotional, social and physical challenges.
“Long commutes, travel costs and logistics can create an extra burden while seeking treatment,” Dr Burke said.
Slated to open in mid-2026, the new cancer care centre will offer patients the best possible radiation therapy cancer care across a range of tumour groups.
More than 35,000 Queenslanders are diagnosed with cancer each year, most commonly with prostate, melanoma and breast cancers. Modelling suggests that almost half of Australians (48.3%) diagnosed with cancer would benefit from radiation therapy.
The GenesisCare site will operate alongside one of Qscan’s flagship medical imaging and radiology clinics and offer patients convenient access to a single medical centre support, including all radiation oncology diagnosis, staging and treatment requirements.
Ms Dooley said she thanked GenesisCare for bringing their services to the peninsula.
“This centre will be transformational for residents in Redcliffe who are experiencing cancer,” she said.
“My experience as a registered nurse and as founder of an in-home hospice care service has shown me the importance of receiving care locally, with the comfort of family, friends and the things you cherish close by.”
With Redcliffe Hospital’s well-established medical oncology, allied health and radiation oncology consulting services all in proximity, patients will have access to comprehensive cancer services without the need to commute long distances between appointments.
