Father’s Day will be celebrated on Sunday 1 September, 2024 and there’s no better place to celebrate Father’s Day than right here in our own backyard. Redcliffe and the surrounding areas have plenty of Father’s Day events, so you can make Dad’s Day memorable.

From delicious dining options to sightseeing and nature experiences, here are our top 10 choices for things to do with Dad on Father’s Day this year.

1. Take Dad on a Whale Watching Tour

If you’ve never been whale watching before, you’re in for a real treat and given September is at the height of whale watching season, there’s no better time to go on a tour! Plus, Dad will love it. Departing from Redcliffe, a cruise is the best way to see these incredible creatures up close, as they migrate along the coast. Companies like Brisbane Whale Watching provide an unforgettable adventure where you can see majestic humpback whales up close.

As you cruise through Moreton Bay, expert guides will tell you all about the behaviours and migration patterns of the whales, and you’ll have plenty of opportunities to take photos. This experience will bring Dad (and you) close to nature.

2. Enjoy a Walk Through the Botanic Gardens

The Redcliffe Botanic Gardens are located in the centre of Redcliffe and are a quiet haven away from the hustle and bustle of city life. You can take a walk along the paths through the stunning plant displays and even enjoy a picnic at one of the covered picnic areas.

Designed to engage your senses with a range of plants and flowers, the themed garden areas include the sensory garden or the Australian native garden. The gardens are an ideal spot for a relaxing afternoon surrounded by nature’s beauty.

3. Go Fishing!

If Dad loves fishing, you have a few options for a great day out. You can either pack up the tackle and lines, grab some bait and head down to Redcliffe Beach to throw in a line. You can also fish from Redcliffe Jetty, where you’ll have the most amazing views and coloured skies at sunrise or sunset.

Or, why not treat Dad to a fishing charter? Spend the day out on the water, catching a variety of fish and enjoying the serene beauty of Moreton Bay. It’s a fantastic way to bond and create lifelong memories. These charters also generally provide all necessary equipment and guidance, so Dad can have a stress-free day on the water.

4. Visit an Art Gallery

If Dad is more of an indoor creative type, take him along to the Redcliffe Art Gallery. Here, there are rotating exhibitions showcasing works from local artists as well as national and international pieces. Take a walk through and find inspiration from the various forms of art, from paintings and sculptures to contemporary installations.

The gallery also hosts workshops and artist talks, providing an opportunity to learn more about the creative processes behind the artworks. Take a look at the website to see what’s happening this Father’s Day. Although it’s closed on Sundays, it’s a great option for the day before Father’s Day – allowing you to cram other activities into your weekend as well.

5. Set Sail

The waters around Redcliffe region are by far some of the best in the world, so a great idea to take advantage of this is a sailing trip! Scarborough’s Moreton Bay Boat Club, along with a host of other local clubs or businesses offer boat rentals and sailing lessons, which could be a fun way for the family to spend the day (or a great gift for Dad to enjoy).

Spend the day learning the ropes or simply enjoying a leisurely sail across the bay’s sparkling waters. This is an exciting way to connect with Dad and enjoy the gorgeous coastline. Contact them to book ahead.

6. Family BBQ at Woody Point

Cook up a feast of steak, sausages or seafood for Dad while enjoying the ocean views. Or pick up some fish and chips from one of our favourite local seafood takeaways!

There’s plenty to do for all ages, with swings and equipment for young children, beach swimming, or you might prefer to simply sit back on the sand and relax – watching as the boats pass you by.

7. Visit Bee Gees Way

If you want to show Dad “How Deep is Your Love” or tell him “You Should Be Dancing”, you need to take him to Bee Gees Way! This is a great way to celebrate Dad’s love for music. This commemorative walkway honours the legendary band, the Bee Gees, and provides fascinating insights into the band’s history and achievements. Did you know they started their career right here in Redcliffe?!

Bee Gees Way has interactive displays and life-size statues that are a definite highlight, and every night from 7pm until 9.30pm, you can see light shows set to the Bee Gee’s greatest hits! It’s a must-see if you’ve never been before.

8. Attend A Live Concert
