Redcliffe Musical Theatre (RMT) is set to captivate audiences with two compelling theatre productions this month, showcasing a blend of contemporary drama and classic musical flair.

The Lovely Bones

Kicking off the month, RMT will present eight performances of The Lovely Bones, a recent stage adaptation of Alice Sebold’s 2002 novel.

Running from 6 September to 15 September at Theatre 102, this powerful play delves into the emotional turmoil of a 14-year-old girl, Susie Salmon, who, after being murdered, observes from her own personal heaven as her family and friends grapple with her death and search for justice.

The adaptation, first performed in the UK in 2018, brings Sebold’s haunting narrative to life with a fresh perspective.

Local talent shines through in the role of Susie Salmon, shared by Zoe Hitchcock and Chloe Credlin.

Zoe, a Grade 11 student at Southern Cross Catholic College, has been involved with RMT and ROAR Academy since she was eight. She is currently performing as Fiona in her school’s production of Shrek and will soon play Katherine in Newsies JR with ROAR Academy. She is also part of the ROAR team travelling to the Junior Theatre Festival (JTF) in Newcastle in October.

The Lovely Bones is recommended for mature audiences aged over 15 years. Book tickets here.

Following this poignant drama, RMT will dazzle audiences with Disney’s Newsies JR, a condensed version of the 2012 Broadway musical inspired by the 1992 film.

This spirited show, set in turn-of-the-century New York City, follows charismatic newsboy Jack Kelly as he leads a strike against unfair conditions imposed by powerful newspaper publishers.

Jack is portrayed by Brighton resident and St Patrick’s College graduate, Anthony Van Stam, who is currently studying classical voice at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University (The Con).

Featuring beloved songs like Carrying the Banner, Seize the Day, Santa Fe and King of New York, Newsies JR promises an engaging and heartwarming experience. The show will run from 27 – 29 September.

Disney’s Newsies JR will be staged at the Redcliffe Entertainment Centre. Book tickets online at the Redcliffe Entertainment Centre website.
