In order to mark 40 years of country music clubs in the area, Redcliffe Country Music Club is inviting people to kick up their heels at their upcoming festival.
With a rich history that harkens back to the late 1970s and early 1980s, the local club is planning to celebrate with a wide range of entertainment offered at the Redcliffe Showgrounds, with very reasonable entry costs for attendees.
According to Kylie Edwards, Festival Committee member of Redcliffe Country Music Club, the time has come for the club to honour the past while also encouraging up-and-coming artists.
“This year, we want to celebrate the past by taking it back to a simpler time when festivals first began, with the standard senior vocal and junior vocal sections, as well as by adding a special themed section ‘1980’s classic country’,” Ms Edwards said.
She said that the entertainment at the festival would include music from contestants aged four to 94, competing in a variety of sections, including bush ballad, country rock, gospel and duo or group, but that the fun won’t stop there.

“The Sunday of our festival will be our party day, where we start off with our ‘anything else’ section, and you might see opera, musical theatre and spoon players (last year we had a five-year-old Elvis),” Ms Edwards said.
The festival, which is all held indoors on the showgrounds in a fully licensed venue (with food choices available), culminates in a ‘finals concert’, where the best of the best from Saturday’s heats compete to be the ultimate winner.
The Redcliffe Country Music Club is always open to new members as a welcoming space for anyone who loves to perform or listen to country music, with a great social emphasis.
To become a member, you can attend one of the monthly socials held at Dalton Hall, Redcliffe Showgrounds, on the third Sunday of every month at 11am.
