Redcliffe is having her 200th birthday – and you are invited!

History Redcliffe is hosting a free family Picnic in the Park to bring the community together to celebrate our heritage, from the first inhabitants to the first Europeans to settle here to the beautiful place many of us call ‘home’ today.

Hark the call of the Town Crier and listen as Songwoman Maroochy Barambah delivers a Welcome to Country.

Entertainment includes roving bands, English dancers, choirs and North Pine Bush Poets who will have you laughing out loud one minute and feeling nostalgic the next. There will be activities for the children, historical displays, market stalls to browse and a range of food trucks onsite.

Secretary History Redcliffe and Event Coordinator, Rae Frawley said the day would be a wonderful family outing to mark the bicentenary of the establishment of the Redcliffe Settlement on Saturday, 14 September.

“It is an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful Humpybong Trail, listen to great music, be entertained and enjoy food with family and friends,” Rae said.

“We should also acknowledge the establishment of the Moreton Bay Penal settlement at Red Cliff as an integral part of what, after 1859, became the colony of Queensland and after 1901, the state of Queensland.

“History Redcliffe invites you to come and commemorate with us.”

An ideal family activity on the day is a walk along the beautifully landscaped Humpybong Trail. Adjacent to the Redcliffe Museum, the trail features signage sharing stories and information about the local history, first people and natural environment of Redcliffe Peninsula.

Redcliffe has come a long way in 200 years. The last 50 years have seen it grow from a somewhat sleepy seaside village into the vibrant, vital community it is today. With its beautiful beaches, thriving businesses and a multitude of facilities, it is no wonder so many people choose to live here.

Once populated by holiday shacks, then the domain of retirees, Redcliffe has matured into a wonderful place for people at every age and stage of life.

Come and commemorate what was, and celebrate what is, and what will be.
