The Redcliffe Red Dragon Boat Club made waves at this year’s State Championships, leaving with an array of medals and a sense of pride in their accomplishments.
The team, consisting of paddlers aged 50 to 70+ years old, won medals in five of the six categories they entered, including the bronze medal in the Senior B Women’s 10’s 200m race.
Paddler, Iris Hall, said she wanted to highlight this particular win as there were several in the crew in their first year of paddling and others who were Senior C’s (60+ years of age) and paddled down a category.
“This is what a tribe does, they give support where needed,” Iris said.
Standout Victory for the Redcliffe Red Dragon Boat Club
Another standout victory for the team was in the Senior C Mixed 10’s 200m race, where a crew of five women and five men from the 60+ age category dominated the competition, winning by almost a boat length and claiming the gold medal.
The Redcliffe Red Dragons are inviting team-orientated Moreton Bay locals who are looking for a tribe and want to get fit to give dragon boating a try. With regular “Come and Try” sessions and a welcoming atmosphere, the team encourages paddlers of all ages and skill levels to experience the thrill of the sport.
