One of Redcliffe’s popular annual fundraisers is back, as the REDDY Fun Run/Walk returns this month.
Over 500 participants are expected to take part in the volunteer-run event, which supports the Redcliffe Hospital Auxiliary.
Rhonda Neal, Coordinator of Facility Services at Metro North Health, said the event started in 2020 during Covid when the Gold Coast Marathon was cancelled, and a group of local ladies decided to donate their entry fees to the Redcliffe Hospital.
“Since then, the annual fundraiser has become a very popular community event; we have raised $120K with every cent going directly to the hospital,” Rhonda said.
“In partnership with the Auxiliary, funds have been used to create the Jacaranda Suite, a beautiful, dedicated space to provide private, respectful, and patient-centred care to women and families experiencing perinatal loss and complications of pregnancy.
Community Impact and Event Details
“There have also been two waiting rooms refurbished in the day procedure unit and two single end-of-life rooms in palliative care. We are hopeful to raise enough again this year to refurbish another room.”
Rhonda said this year will be bigger, with live radio coverage from 99.7 FM, as well as raffles and prizes. She thanked sponsors Tom’s Confectionery Warehouse, Cornerstone Funerals, GNB Energy, Emtek and Redcliffe Fitness Hub, and community donations.
“There is no set entry fee; a donation of what you can spare, big or small, can make a powerful impact,” she said. “Every step you take helps create lasting change!”
