Redcliffe Jetty
Watch the sky change colour over the water as you enjoy sunset on the Redcliffe Jetty. Redcliffe is only a 40 minute drive from the Brisbane CBD but feels like a world away. The jetty is just over 200 m long making it the ideal spot for a short stroll as the sun goes down. Grab a picnic or dine in one of the many local restaurants along Redcliffe Parade when you are done.

Mount Ngungun
Ok, this is just slightly outside the Moreton Bay region, but we think Mount Ngungun is worth a mention. The Glasshouse Mountains are situated between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast and offer plenty of experiences, including camping, hiking and day trips. Another fabulous option is to watch the sun go down from one of the many viewpoints. While there are numerous tracks to choose from, we think the view from Mount Ngungun is pretty spectacular. Rising to around 240m, the walk is fairly easy and the track is well maintained and suitable for beginners. The return circuit is just under 3 km and has 360° views from the top, perfect for a sunset walk with friends.

Wild Horse Mountain Lookout
Located in Beerburrum State Forest, the Wild Horse Mountain Lookout is an easy to get to location just off the Bruce Highway north of Brisbane. The lookout gives you a 360° view of the surrounding landscape, meaning there is always something to see. There is a short but slightly steep walk from the carpark to get to the top (around 700m) before climbing the few stairs into the fire rotunda which makes an excellent viewing platform. There is shade along the way. Take the Wild Horse Mountain Summit Lookout exit off the Bruce Highway.

Lake Samsonvale
Pack a picnic and head to Lake Samsonvale. Choose a spot along the water then sit back and take in nature at its finest. The lake is large enough for you to choose a number of different views, but no matter where you sit, you will be treated to a spectacular sky show. There are a number of designated parks, playgrounds and barbeque areas on offer meaning you can really enjoy an afternoon here. There are several car parks, depending on the direction you are coming from however the Forgan picnic area is easily accessible via Forgan Rd.

Sunset Park, Bribie Island
It has to be a good spot if it is named ‘Sunset Park’! Sunset Park on Bribie Island is a quiet open air park with views west across the Pumicestone Passage and towards the Glasshouse Mountains. We recommend bringing along a picnic as there are no facilities there. If you are bringing the family and want a playground, head just slightly south to the Pirate Park (also on the water) and then grab some dinner at Sylvan Beach Seafood.

Tangalooma Island Resort
If you are after spectacular sunsets, a visit to Tangalooma Island Resort has to be on your bucket list. Just over an hour ferry ride from Brisbane, Tangalooma Resort is located on beautiful Moreton Island, the third largest sand island in the world. You can stay at the resort itself or elsewhere on the island, but make sure you are on the beach for sunset to watch the sun go down. You can even feed the wild dolphins while you are there. Don’t forget your camera!

Jolly’s Lookout, Mount Nebo
Located in the D’Aguilar National Park, Jolly’s Lookout boasts views across Enoggera Reserve and towards the Glasshouse Mountains. Watch the sky change colour over the greenery of the land and enjoy taking some time out with friends. We recommend bringing some sunset snacks and enjoying the time in nature away from the hustle and bustle of the city. There is a picnic table and toilet block on site and is easily accessible from Brisbane.

Wivenhoe Lookout
Wivenhoe Lookout is part of the D’Aguilar National park and offers views over Lake Wivenhoe and west. The lake is an important resource for the water supply in South East Queensland but is also a great place for locals to enjoy water activities. This lookout is for those who purely want to enjoy nature and the view, as there are no facilities there. The lookout is a short 100 m walk from the carpark and Mount Glorious is nearby offering more facilities if you need them.

Dahmongah Lookout Park
Located on the Mt Mee Road tourist drive, Dahmongah Lookout Park offers views to the coast, the Glasshouse Mountains and even towards Brisbane. The perfect place to stop if you are in the area doing some hiking or just passing through and want to take in the sunset.
