Toni Hilton, founder of Beautiful You Hair and Beauty in Margate, has made it her life’s mission to empower women, both locally and abroad.

Toni’s desire to make a bigger impact led to the creation of Beautiful You Training Ministries, a non-profit organisation focused on rescuing, protecting and supporting vulnerable women. Beautiful You Training Ministries’ latest partnership is with Home of Hope Liberia.

Home of Hope Liberia, run by ex-Redcliffe nurse Margot Biggs, is a shelter in West Africa that provides safety, healthcare and vocational training to women and children who may have experienced homelessness, trauma, domestic violence and poverty.

Toni said she was passionate about helping women who couldn’t care for themselves or their children through no fault of their own.

“When I met Margot through my church and learned about the life-changing work she is doing at Home of Hope Liberia, I knew I wanted to get involved,” Toni said. “There is a critical need for safe spaces for women in Liberia.”

Beautiful You Training Ministries plays an important role in supporting Home of Hope Liberia through fundraising efforts that contribute towards the running of the shelter. It also funds Christmas food and gifts for the staff and residents, along with an end-of-program graduation ceremony.

“It costs just AUD 5,000 a month to keep the shelter running, and that money provides food, medical care, trauma counselling, security and a graduation pack that includes a mattress, cooking equipment, toiletries, food, money for six months’ rent and some business start-up funds to help the women generate an income,” Toni said.

“Home of Hope Liberia launched the 100 in 100 campaign which is aiming at finding 100 donors to give $50 a month to help cover the shelter’s essential expenses.

“We’re around 70% of the way to reaching our goal, and every dollar truly makes a difference. The work Margot is doing is incredible, and I’m proud to be able to support her any way I can.”
