As the year draws to a close, join Mousetrap Theatre Company for a jolly good time at the Mousetrap Family Christmas Show.

Families are invited to spread festive cheer at one of six performances between 29 November and 8 December at the John Naumann Hall in Deception Bay.

Mousetrap Theatre Company president Karen Matthews said the audience could expect a variety show with a Christmas theme.

“There will be something for everyone; songs, dances, skits and trivia,” Karen said. “The first half of the show is the traditional ‘snow and reindeer’ version of Christmas, with Act 2 taking on a warmer, more Australian feel.”

Directed by Susan Harding-Smith, the show features a talented cast ranging from nine-year-olds to seasoned performers.

Audiences can look forward to beloved holiday classics, including Nikol Trenberth’s rendition of ‘It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas’, Garry Somerville’s ‘Holly Jolly Christmas’, Bec Murray’s ‘Santa Baby’ and Tom Burrell’s ‘Run Run Rudolph’. Karen will also perform ‘The Man With the Bag’.

Festive Fun and Future Plans

Young star Miranda Matthews is set to shine with ‘You’re a Mean One, Mr Grinch’, while Ace Atkinson and Darcee Buckingham will duet on ‘Candy Cane Lane’.

Christmas-themed trivia, hosted by Karen Christl, will be woven throughout the show, with prizes for the winning table.

Attendees are encouraged to wear their best festive attire for a chance to win a prize in the fashion parade during the interval. Everyone is welcome to sing along to their favourite Christmas songs and watch for surprise appearances from Mrs Claus and the Grinch.

Karen said the show was all about fun and family.

“Mousetrap is a theatre company with members ranging from small children to senior citizens and we enjoy entertaining the public while giving all our members a chance to shine,” she said. “And who doesn’t love a little glitter and sparkle?”

Looking ahead, Karen said the company hoped to move into their new venue, The Sutton Centre, late this year or early next.

“Once we’ve had a chance to create a theatre space, we’ll be offering all the types of shows our patrons know and love – plays, musicals, cabarets, youth shows, one-act plays and more,” she said. “The timeframe for the start is still uncertain, but we will be busy next year.”
