With Brisbane Convoy For Kids (BC4K), a cacophonous cavalcade of trucks is usually the first thing that comes to mind, but children are always the main focus – whether that’s in terms of entertaining them or benefiting them in the charitable sense.
This year’s BC4K, happening on the first Saturday in November, will provide proceeds to Hummingbird House (Queensland’s only children’s hospice), with The Trailer of Hope returning so that all types of sponsors are able to unite in support.
According to Dana Browne, Public Officer BC4K, the well-loved occasion plays a vital role in the community by raising funds and awareness for children and families in need.
“We kick off with a truck convoy from Larapinta to the Redcliffe Showgrounds – a spectacular 62 kilometre journey showcasing an impressive lineup of trucks,” Ms Browne said.
Once the convoy arrives at the showgrounds, there is a ticketed family fun day to enjoy, which includes a truck show, a charity auction, amusement rides, an animal farm, a fireworks display and live music performances from Liam Maihi and Travis Sinclair.
A Message of Hope and Compassion
Travis Sinclair said he was always thrilled to perform at BC4K, with his highlights being not only the charity aspect but also the joy of being able to see youngsters having a great time at the event.
“My passion and reason for being a singer is to bring joy to people’s faces, and I have done lots of charities and worked with kids throughout my career,” Mr Sinclair said.
The Golden Guitar-winning musician expressed his alignment with the charity mission in terms of his “very deep experience with a young man who loved my music and who changed my perspective on life and happiness.”
“He was so sick and still made such a big effort to come to a show (that I was doing in Queensland many years ago), and it’s something that I will never forget,” Mr Sinclair said.
It is a reflection that highlights the significance of the compassionate care provided to young people with life-limiting illnesses and their families by organisations like Hummingbird House.
