Clontarf Hideaway is a new space for community and private functions, incorporating My Preloved Wardrobe/My Preloved Wardrobe Kids and Steele’s Espresso House as part of a family-friendly hub.

Located, as the name suggests, in the heart of Clontarf, the area is fully gated with a shaded kid’s zone and an on-site coffee shop that provides access to all of My Preloved Wardrobe’s circular fashion finds.

Co-owner Lisa Berg (alongside her mother, Vicki Gillie) said Clontarf Hideaway had been a labour of love and had evolved incrementally since the opening of My Preloved Wardrobe in June 2021.

“We worked hard to slowly update racking and improve our shop,” Ms Berg said. “We then expanded and turned a run-down shop into our kids’ shop.”

After the addition of a coffee area within the kid’s shop, according to Ms Berg, her family then “worked extra hard to bring our backyard into the Clontarf Hideaway.”

A Place to Gather, Play and Sip

As well as hosting the enterprise’s community plant club and community markets, the area has already accommodated a diverse mix of Mother’s Day mini photo shoots and birthday events.

According to Ms. Berg, it took ten months to complete the installation of the space, using as many preloved materials and items as practically possible.

“Peter (Dad), our shop handyman, was our biggest helper,” Ms Berg said. “We also kindly got our AstroTurf donated from Andrew at Andyman Synthetic Turf.”

Ms Berg said that their striking butterfly mural was completed by Zak from Zakdinart – a tattoo artist at Electric Expression Tattoo Studio in Clontarf.

For Lisa Steele of Steele’s Espresso House, there was an immediate alignment for her business to be incorporated in the space.

“It was a meant-to-be moment,” Ms Steele said. “I love being able to get creative with my baking and the work-life balance (as a mother of younger kids).”

In summary, Ms Berg said, “People love that they can gather, have coffee, the kids can safely play, and then go to a shop for the entire family.”
