An original comedy special aimed at grandparenthood is coming to Redcliffe this month.
Being showcased at the Redcliffe Entertainment Centre, The Grandparents Club 2 will take to the stage with a hilarious four cast member production, including Lynne McGranger (Home and Away).
Get Ready for Laughter on the High Seas
Director Luke Joslin said the show could be enjoyed by everyone, no matter their age.
“This show is for everyone and it’s as much about the importance of connection and family as it is about grandparenting, so everyone will get something from seeing it,” Luke said. “Mum and daughters will particularly get a kick.
“The show is its own genre, really. It sits in a kind of comedy revue world.
“It’s part slapstick and part vaudeville. At its core, it’s a comedy play. Audiences can expect to laugh a lot, and who knows, you might even shed a tear in places.”
Packed with catchy tunes, lots of laughs and highly relatable characters, the show explores four grandparents getting ready to let loose on a cruise.
“The inspiration came from co-creators and producers Lyndi Adler and Maree Kirkland-Morris, who initially felt there was a gap in the market for stories about being a grandparent,” Luke said.
“This wiser section of the community wasn’t being talked about or celebrated enough – so they decided to create a show that does just that, with plenty of heart, humour and music.”
While challenging, Luke said his directing experience was extremely rewarding.
“Comedy is hard, and sneaking up on the audience with a new gag is always terrifying, but it’s the joy and heart of our four cast members that gets us across the line every time,” Luke said.
“Working through the physical comedy has been a highlight. I’m up there with them, trying and testing. It’s hands-on, but I love it!
“Everything aside, this is a new Aussie musical revue. Original music and original book.
“This in itself is something to be celebrated. The work that both Lyndi and Maree have done to make this show a reality is truly astounding. We are most excited about this upcoming iteration.”
Tickets are $72.50 per person.
