The Friends of the Redcliffe Botanic Gardens are encouraging locals to get involved in gardening, creativity and community connection through a range of activities at the gardens.
Treasurer of the Friends of the Redcliffe Botanic Gardens said the group’s approach closely reflects the ideas explored in Hannah Maloney’s book Why We Garden.
“She says we garden for joy, for our minds, for creativity, to connect with nature, for community and because it’s beautiful,” the Treasurer said. “That’s exactly how we think about the gardens and the community we’ve built here.”
The volunteer-run organisation helps preserve and promote the gardens while creating opportunities for people to connect through shared interests and activities.
Cultivating Creativity and Community Connections
Locals looking for inspiration for their own outdoor spaces can visit the verge garden display beds, which showcase native planting ideas as part of a City of Moreton Bay initiative.
The group has also been developing its community hub in the Wallum Building next to the nursery, hosting art classes and workshops throughout the year.
“Our recent nature-inspired Zentangling class sold out very quickly, which shows how much interest there is in these activities,” the Treasurer said.
Residents can register for updates on future events and classes by emailing secretary@friendsrbg.org.au.
The group is also encouraging people to collect their free native plant vouchers from City of Moreton Bay and consider volunteering.
“Whether you can spare two hours a week or two hours a month, we fit in with you,” the Treasurer said.
