From showbags to showstoppers, Queensland’s biggest show is back this month, promising more fun and affordability than ever.
This year’s Royal Queensland Show (Ekka) aims to offer budget-friendly options across tickets, food, rides and transport.
RNA Chief Executive Brendan Christou said the RNA was aware of cost-of-living pressures and had worked closely with food and ride operators to deliver savings to families.
“Even though showgoers have the option of bringing their own food and drinks, we know the food is a major attraction at Ekka and the costs to feed a family can add up,’’ he said.
“That’s why all our Ekka food vendors will offer a special value item priced at $10 or less, and also available will be a broad range of food and drink bundles for families and groups.
“Rides are hugely popular too, so we encourage people to take advantage of the daily Happy Hour, which offers two-for-one rides from 9.30am to 10.30am.”
For the first time, Ekka visitors can pre-order the iconic Ekka Strawberry Sundae online when buying tickets. A four-pack is available for $25.
Also new this year, Back for More Passes are available online, letting showgoers return for a second day for just $22.
Getting to the Ekka is more affordable than ever, with 50-cent train fares to and from the new Exhibition Station, right in the heart of the Brisbane Showgrounds.
Traditions, Thrills and EkkaNITES
Mr Christou said 400,000 visitors were forecast to attend this year’s event.
“The Ekka will feature all the traditional and unique show experiences the public know and love, such as our competitions, animals, rides, showbags, spectacular entertainment, including the night show and fireworks, plus some of the nation’s finest food and wine,” he said.
Family-friendly favourites include the wheelchair-accessible Crown Ferris Wheel, lighting up B105 Sideshow Alley with $500K in lights, and Pirates Revenge – Australia’s largest and only travelling water coaster.
The Showbag Pavilion is an Ekka favourite, with the tradition dating back to 1876 and the very first showbag – a bag of coal! Top picks today include Bluey, Frozen 2, Spiderman, Freddo and Bertie Beetle.
Each night, the Main Arena lights up for EkkaNITES with live music, horse action, motorbikes and fireworks. Another highlight is the Grand Parade on People’s Day (13 August), featuring over 500 animals.
