A Word From Our Reps

Chamber Chat

Our second members’ event this year was a breakfast at Sunny’s (Sebel Hotel) on Suttons Beach. Representatives from City of Moreton Bay and the Department of Trade, Employment and Training spoke to the members in attendance about the various schemes and grants available to local businesses. The theme was ‘Thriving together – How government resources can drive small business success’. The council’s website (www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au) can guide you through the services and grants available.

Our next members’ event will be on 1 April, with the theme – ‘Engaging with the next generation of workers’. It will be a special lunch prepared by the students from the Redcliffe Special School. An invitation will be sent directly to members.

The impact of Cyclone Alfred in the Redcliffe area was felt by all. There were constant updates in the media and the residents were well prepared. Heavy rain and strong winds caused moderate damage. Most businesses closed for a few days and residents hunkered in their homes. Council was very active in providing updates and offering support where required, as was the State Government.

As advised previously, the chamber executive is extremely conscious of giving value back to its members going forward – events this year will focus on achieving this goal. We are partnering with other chambers in the Moreton Bay region in a collaborative effort to improve our services. There will be a combined event in May to share and exchange ideas.  Members will be welcome to attend.

All businesses are encouraged to join the Redcliffe Chamber of Commerce and take the opportunity to network with their peers at our functions and workshops. It is only $150 per annum. I hope to see you at our next function. We are here to help your business grow.

Firstly, I want to thank the people of Redcliffe for electing me to represent you in the Queensland Parliament. It is an incredible privilege to represent a community I was born into and have served since I was 16. Redcliffe is a beautiful place to live, work and play and I look forward to working with you to make Redcliffe an even better and safer place to live.

With Christmas upon us, I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I do hope you and your loved ones can take time to reflect on 2024 and set new goals for 2025.

Christmas can be a difficult time for many, so please remember to reach out to your neighbours and friends who might be doing it tough. There are many local organisations who help with Christmas hampers or other supports. Let’s be a community that cares for one another, especially at this time of year. If my office can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Luke Howarth MP

Christmas and New Year’s are no doubt one of my favourite times of the year. It is a special time to reflect on all the blessings we can be grateful for.

This season is a time for us to cherish our loved ones, create fond memories and celebrate the end of another year together. With Christmas carols, endless wrapping paper and cherished moments around the tree, it’s truly a festive and busy time of year.

It is also a time to celebrate with the community. To find out what is happening in your local area, make sure to check out the many Christmas celebrations with fun for the whole family at whatsonmoretonbay.com/christmas

It’s been a full and fulfilling year and I’m honoured to have served as your local Federal MP once again. As we enter the holiday season, I hope you find moments to reflect and celebrate the blessings of 2024 and enjoy a refreshing start to 2025.

From my family to yours – a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
