Get ready to groove this Christmas season with a twist of flower power.

Swing into the sixties at the Redcliffe Golf Club on Saturday, 21 December, when Tune In Turn On Drop Out takes the stage for their holiday performance, A Happy Hippie Xmas.

Lead vocalist Jim Hansen said the band’s goal was simple – bringing people together who share a love for the iconic music of the sixties.

“We’re inviting them to come together in peace and love – the themes of so much of that music and at the heart of the Christmas spirit,” Jim said.

Peace, Love, and a Nostalgic Night Out

The band’s setlist promises a blend of festive and peace-inspired hits, including John Lennon’s So This is Christmas (War Is Over), The Youngbloods’ Get Together, Stephen Stills’ Love the One You’re With, The Beatles’ All You Need is Love and The Turtles’ Happy Together.

Tune In Turn On Drop Out boasts a lineup of musicians who were active in the sixties rock and pop scene, each bringing decades of experience to the stage. Along with Jim, the band includes lead guitarists Garry McDonald and Roger Jellicoe, bass guitarist Robert ‘Scotty’ Park, keyboardist Norm Hunter and drummer Mick Monaghan.

Jim said the band loved seeing the audience “singing along, dancing with smiling faces and getting into the spirit of the swinging sixties”.

Attendees are invited to don their sixties hippie gear, with prizes for the best or most outrageous costumes.

“We like to dress in the spirit of the swinging sixties and encourage our audiences to do the same,” Jim said. “However, our drummer Mick will (also) be decorating his kit with mistletoe.”

He said 2024 had been a year of growth for the band, with lots of new songs, medleys and venues.

“The response from audiences has been great, including from young people,” he said. “We consistently draw a large crowd.

“For 2025, we’re looking to expand our current repertoire, still within that period of late sixties music and already have return bookings from venues that we performed at in 2024.”

Meals will be available from 5.30pm to 8pm. To make a reservation, call the Redcliffe Golf Club on 3284 5485.
