Disadvantaged job seekers in Redcliffe will soon gain valuable workplace skills through the Queensland Government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW) initiative.

As part of the second funding round for 2024-25, Redcliffe Area Youth Space (RAYS) has been awarded funding to deliver a Certificate I in Workplace Skills to 36 participants, helping them build skills in business, retail and hospitality.

CEO of RAYS, Amy Mayes, said the funding would be a life-changer for the participants.

“RAYS has been delivering this type of training for several years now and has seen many participants successfully find part and full-time employment after completing these courses, as well as excellent life skills,” Amy said.

The certificate also includes CPR and first aid training over 24 weeks.

Social Enterprises and Future Opportunities

Member for Redcliffe, Kerri-Anne Dooley, said the funding would offer disadvantaged job seekers traineeships across RAYS’ social enterprises, including Picnic Hill, 4020 Coffee Cart, Ride Supplies, Misfits United and Connections Catering.

The SQW initiative is on track to help more than 100,000 Queenslanders secure employment through skills training, qualifications and work experience by mid-2025. The second round of funding saw a record number of applications, with up to 6,1333 unemployed and underemployed Queenslanders set to benefit from the funding.
