This month, high tea, fashion and community spirit will come together to raise funds and awareness for myeloma.
The second annual Glamour and Giving – High Tea in Style Fundraiser will be held at Redcliffe Leagues Club on Saturday, 18 October, with proceeds supporting Myeloma Australia.
Organised by Semone Shea, the event will include a drink on arrival, guest speakers, a fashion showcase by Pomme Vanilla Island Fashion Collection, high tea and raffles, with prizes donated by community members.
Semone said the fundraiser is a special event because it combines community, friendship, and a cause close to her heart.
“As a family member of someone affected by myeloma, I felt this was a meaningful way that I could help make a difference,” Semone said.
Myeloma is a blood cancer that develops from plasma cells in the bone marrow. While it is not yet curable, advances in treatment have helped make the condition manageable, with patients experiencing periods of remission and relapse.
“By bringing our community together, we can raise much-needed funds and awareness for Myeloma Australia and help support vital research, improved treatments and better outcomes for people living with myeloma, and their families,” Semone said.
Expert Insights and Community Support for Myeloma Research
Speakers on the day include Kerri-Anne Dooley MP, a nurse specialising in in-home palliative care, and Jonah Hanlon, a Myeloma Australia nurse.
“We are delighted to have Kerri-Anne join us and share her experiences and perspective,” Semone said. “We hope her words will inspire our guests and help shine a light on the importance of compassionate care, community support and continuing to raise awareness and funds for vital causes such as myeloma.
“Jonah will provide our guests with an insight into myeloma from a healthcare professional’s perspective, helping us better understand the disease, the challenges faced by patients and families, and the importance of ongoing research, treatment and support.”
Semone said the event is supported by major sponsors SMN Accountants and Pomme Vanille Island Fashion Collection.
“For me, the event is about turning something positive and enjoyable into an opportunity to give back,” she said.
“There is something very powerful about a community coming together — every person who attends, donates, sponsors or contributes in some way becomes part of making a difference.
“We hope everyone leaves feeling inspired, uplifted and proud to have helped raise much-needed funds and awareness for Myeloma Australia.”
Tickets are available through Humanitix or in-store at Pomme Vanille Island Fashion Collection at Bluewater Square, Redcliffe.
