Many Redcliffe eateries are catering to gluten-free diners, with some taking extra steps to minimise the risk of cross-contamination with other products.
One popular choice is Marvelous Fish and Chips on Landsborough Avenue, Scarborough, where owner Rebecca Cockett said the business has a separate fryer for gluten-free food.
Rebecca said Marvelous understood the importance of avoiding cross-contamination.
“We have a very loyal gluten-free customer base, as we take care with the preparation of our gluten-free food and offer a gluten-free crumb and batter,” she said.
“We chose to include gluten-free options into our menu because of a definite need in the market. We started with a batter, but incorporated a crumb last year to give our gluten-free customers a choice, like everybody else.
“It’s important to us that we provide gluten-free, as it allows families to eat together when one or more family members may have an intolerance to gluten. The amount of gluten-free customers who are so excited and say they haven’t had fish and chips for years is truly satisfying, as to most of us, it is taken for granted that we can pop to our local chippie for a feed anytime.”
Bazil&Co at Scarborough Beach Resort also caters for gluten-free diners, with a range of cakes including tarts, cakes, cheesecakes and biscuits.
Exploring Gluten-Free Cafe and Restaurant Options Across Redcliffe
Along Redcliffe Parade, Café Diversity offers gluten-free options on most breakfast items and can make toasties, burgers and sandwiches gluten-free, as well as offering gluten-free cakes.
Fish and chips fans can find gluten-free options at Yabbey Road, including battered fish, chips, calamari and potato scallops.
Papi’s Mexican Kitchen reportedly has a mostly gluten-free menu, including enchiladas, chicken nachos and pork tacos.
La Lanterna is said to make its own gluten-free gnocchi in-house, with a dedicated gluten-free kitchen space and knowledgeable staff.
Meanwhile, Aussie Rooster Kippa Ring recently said on its Facebook page that, as far as the business knows, it is the only store in Brisbane offering gluten-free roast chicken.
At Que Dining in Newport, diners can also find several gluten-free options on the Vietnamese cuisine menu.
While many local venues take precautions, diners concerned about cross-contamination should speak with staff before ordering, particularly at venues that are not dedicated gluten-free.
