Kristy Dreyer, who moved from the Sunshine Coast to the Moreton Bay area to share her love of aqua fitness with a new community, has become a personification of the popular phrase “just keep swimming.”
This dynamic sports instructor provides fun and effective aqua aerobics classes at Ripple Swim School Scarborough plus seniors classes and lengthen and stretch classes at PCYC Redcliffe. (See more details at the end of the story)
“Each session is designed to be low-impact but high-motivation, making it accessible to everyone,” Kristy said.
Kristy said that aqua aerobics is gentle on the joints but that it still provides a full-body workout, with the hydrostatic pressure from the water improving circulation.
“The water’s resistance helps tone muscles and boosts cardiovascular strength, all while reducing impact on the body,” she said.
According to Kristy, aqua aerobics is suitable for all ages and fitness levels, including people recovering from injuries or managing chronic conditions, but the positive factors do not stop there.
“Beyond physical benefits, aqua exercise can also ease the gloominess of depression, reduce the tension linked to anxiety, and promote relaxation,” she said.
Building Community Through Aqua Fitness
Kristy said that the local community has been so welcoming and supportive, with “people coming together not just to improve their own fitness but to lift each other up.”
“I’m especially grateful for Jayden and Jan (of Ripple Swim), whose friendship and unwavering support have meant the world to me,” she said.
Kristy said her classes at Ripple Swim were aimed at “providing a consistent routine for members who want to build strength and endurance in the water.”
In terms of classes at PCYC Redcliffe, they are “designed to support healthy ageing by helping participants maintain or achieve a healthy weight and reduce the risk of falls.”
Lengthen and Stretch is a new program, which Kristy will launch at PCYC Redcliffe, that takes fitness out of the water with a focus on “helping you unwind, lengthen and restore flexibility in a welcoming, relaxing atmosphere.”
Kristy also offers one-on-one personal training and is able to tailor sessions to meet individual goals and needs.
