Volunteers are spreading kindness across Moreton Bay through home-cooked meals, one lasagna at a time.
What began in 2020 has since grown into an international volunteer network, with more than 750,000 homemade lasagnas delivered across the United States, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom.
One local volunteer, Merryn Jooste, said Lasagna Love was about more than providing a meal.
“Lasagna Love’s mission is to feed families, spread kindness and joy, and strengthen communities,” Merryn said.
“Volunteer lasagna chefs are connected to individuals and families in need, providing home-cooked lasagnas made with love.”
The process involves volunteer chefs registering with Lasagna Love, while individuals or families can request a meal through the organisation. They are then matched with a local volunteer, who prepares and delivers the lasagna directly to them.
Volunteers can choose how often they cook, making it possible to contribute around work and family commitments. Those needing support can request a lasagna for themselves, with no referral required.
One Volunteer’s Journey with Lasagna Love
Since joining Lasagna Love as a volunteer chef in October 2025, Merryn has cooked and delivered 30 meals, feeding more than 120 people in her local community.
“I believe that cooking for someone else is a very tangible way of expressing love,” Merryn said. “It takes time, thought and effort and shows the recipient that you really care.
“I have always enjoyed cooking for family and friends and when I first saw a Lasagna Love Facebook post in October 2025, it spoke to my heart.”
Merryn said anyone experiencing hardship could request a lasagna, with no qualifications required to receive support.
“Asking for help can be difficult and Lasagna Love focuses on ensuring dignity and support and delivering kindness without judgement or qualifications,” Merryn said.
“Whether someone is facing financial challenges, emotional overwhelm, medical issues, or any other hardship, Lasagna Love strives to provide relief, hope, and connection through the simple yet profound gesture of a warm meal.”
