For a weekend each year, the skies above the Redcliffe Peninsula fill with colourful kites from around Australia and overseas when VietJet Redcliffe KiteFest returns.
The free community event will be held at Pelican Park in Clontarf on 19-20 September and will feature giant kites, family activities and entertainment.
Tourism and Events Moreton Bay CEO Luke Edwards said KiteFest continued to bring locals and visitors together each year.
“VietJet Redcliffe KiteFest has firmly established itself as a standout on Moreton Bay’s annual event calendar, bringing together thousands of locals and visitors to experience colour, creativity and the excitement of kites filling our skies,” Luke said.
“We worked hard in 2025 to move KiteFest from a paid-entry model to a free family-friendly festival, making it more accessible for locals and visitors while maintaining the quality and experience the event is known for.”
The festival program includes kite displays by Australian and international kite flyers, a public fly zone, kids kite-making workshops, pony rides, farmyard animals, a dedicated kids zone, and food vendors. Amusement rides will also be available, with an unlimited rides pass priced at $35.
Meet the Featured Kite Flyers
Among those attending will be Victorian kite flyers Peter, who has been making kites since childhood, and his wife, Aneta, who regularly attend kite events across Australia and New Zealand with a collection of small to mid-sized show kites. Aneta will also display an assortment of ground display items.
Queensland kite flyer Justine will also attend, bringing a crocodile kite, as well as horse and Dumbo kites. She is known for her pink hair and pink hat.
The festival coincides with the start of the September school holidays.
Local Member for Redcliffe, Kerri-Anne Dooley MP, said KiteFest was a much-loved community event that brought families and visitors together on the Peninsula.
“KiteFest is one of those special events that creates lasting memories, with families, friends and visitors coming together to enjoy the outdoors and the unique spirit of Redcliffe,” Ms Dooley said.
“With more than 20,000 people expected to attend, the festival is a great opportunity to support local businesses, showcase the region and enjoy a weekend that reflects the best of Queensland’s coastal lifestyle.”
