Coffee and cycling are the perfect combination at Bespoke CC, a bicycle build, repair and retail shop based in Redcliffe, which is becoming a hub for something more than the traditional group ride.
Holding monthly ‘coffee raves’, the business transforms the front of their bike shop into a morning party that features music, beverages and a strong community vibe.
According to bicycle mechanic and team member Mitchell Barnett, Bespoke CC wanted to create something where people could enjoy a fun atmosphere without needing to be in a nightclub or bar.
“It’s energetic, social and welcoming, and it’s become something that people genuinely look forward to each month,” Mitch said.
He said the mornings typically start out with participants gathering at the shop before heading out on either a relaxed social ride (around 35-50 km) or a run (about 5 km).
After the exercise, according to Mitch, people often stick around to socialise – “some stay for 15 minutes, while others stay for a few hours.”
“It’s become just as much about the conversations afterwards as it is about the ride or run itself,” he said.
Mitch said the events were open to everyone, from experienced cyclists or runners to “someone who has just bought their first bike – or simply if you want to grab a coffee and enjoy the atmosphere”.
“Families regularly come along, kids love the music and the bikes, and plenty of people attend even if they don’t ride,” he said.
More Than a Ride: Building Community
According to Mitch, one of the best parts of hosting the coffee raves has been watching friendships form between people who otherwise never would have met.
“It’s become more than a monthly ride – it’s become a community gathering where people reconnect, support local businesses and enjoy spending time together,” he said.
“There’s a real shift towards experiences that leave you feeling better rather than worse,” Mitch said of what seems to be an emerging cultural phenomenon.
