Acoustic tunes and acrobatics are some of the features of a series of free, family-friendly music and arts events presented by the City of Moreton Bay, known as Groovin’ in the Green, with the next iteration, Salt Air Sessions, arriving in Clontarf this month.

The event, scheduled for Saturday, 15 August in Pelican Park, invites people to bring a picnic rug, gather their family and friends, and enjoy food trucks, a licensed area (for ages applicable) and, of course, all the supplied entertainment.

According to Latonya Wigginton, co-founder of Sparkle Society Arts (providing the acrobatics for the afternoon), the events are set up to be intergenerational, with something for people of all ages to enjoy.

“It’s great that this event is open to the entire community – at Groovin’ in the Green, anyone can come down and enjoy a lovely afternoon in the park with free live music and activities,” Latonya said.

According to co-founder Ambrose Kelso, the best part of performing live is seeing the excitement on people’s faces and connecting with them in real time.

“We always make time after each of our performances to chat with the audience and answer any of their questions,” they said.

Inspiring Future Performers Through Circus

Since 2022, Sparkle Society Arts has delivered over 200 performances and workshops across Australia, with both Latonya and Ambrose training and performing for over 15 years.

“However, we love when projects like Groovin’ in the Green allow us to perform on our home turf in South East Queensland,” Ambrose said.

Ambrose said that parents often ask them how they can get their kids involved in circus or performance classes.

“So, it’s great to see that direct inspiration of future artists,” they said of the impact of their involvement at Groovin’ in the Green and similar events.
