Artel Studio is once again inviting the Moreton Bay community to experience the remarkable work of its artists through the Idée Fixe – Repetition & Refinement exhibition at the Redcliffe Art Gallery.
Lorrienne O’Driscoll, Visual Arts Coordinator for Artel, said the Redcliffe-based studio, operated by not-for-profit disability support provider Choice, Passion, Life, helps artists with disability develop and exhibit contemporary visual art.
“The studio provides a professional environment where artists can refine their practice across printmaking, painting, drawing, textiles and mixed media,” Lorrienne said. “It celebrates each artist’s individual creative voice, while providing opportunities to develop technical skills, exhibit professionally, and engage with the broader arts community.”
Artel’s artists represent a wide range of ages and creative experience, with each developing their practice at their own pace. The Idée Fixe – Repetition & Refinement exhibit showcases explorations from 42 different artists over the past two years.
“The exhibition explores the theme of repetition and refinement – showing how artists revisit ideas, materials and techniques over time to strengthen their creative practice,” Lorrienne said. “It features contemporary works on paper created across a wide range of printmaking and visual art techniques.”
Professional Recognition Through Exhibition
Lorrienne explained that while time spent in the studio varies for each artist, many of them enjoy the freedom to experiment and develop their own visual language, while also being part of a supportive creative community that values artistic expression and professional practice.
“Professional exhibitions recognise the artists for what they are – professional artists with distinctive creative practices and important stories to tell,” she said. “Having work displayed in a public gallery creates opportunities for artists to build confidence, connect with audiences, and contribute to Queensland’s vibrant arts community.”
The Idée Fixe – Repetition & Refinement exhibit brings together the artists, their families, supporters and members of the community. Visitors will be able to view the varied works on exhibit throughout the Redcliffe Art Gallery foyer from 8 August to 14 November.
“We’d love the community to come along and experience the exhibition for themselves,” she said. “We hope visitors leave inspired not only by the quality of the artwork, but also by the diversity of perspectives that strengthen our local arts community.”
