The Friends of Redcliffe Botanic Gardens are more than just volunteers – they’re passionate advocates for native flora, working to preserve and promote local plant species in Moreton Bay.

This dedicated group grows a diverse range of native plants and collaborates with the City of Moreton Bay to maintain native species within the beautiful, leafy setting of the Redcliffe Botanic Gardens.

A key part of their work is the community nursery, which offers a variety of native plants at affordable prices. Treasurer Adriana Pamplin said it was also one of the few nurseries in the region where Moreton Bay ratepayers could redeem their native plant vouchers, making it easier for residents to introduce native species into their gardens.

“Native plants are the foundation of our local ecosystem,” Adriana said. “They provide essential habitat for wildlife and they’re more resilient to local conditions. By choosing native plants, residents can create beautiful, sustainable gardens that support biodiversity.

“Locals can apply for their free native plant voucher every calendar year and use it to get four tube-stock pot plants, two plants in medium-sized pots, or one plant in a large pot. You just need to lodge your request for a voucher online or ring the council.”

The Heart of the Gardens: Community and Conservation

The organisation’s work extends beyond plant sales and education. Volunteers dedicate countless hours to preserving and expanding the gardens’ native plant collections, ensuring future generations can enjoy the thriving sanctuary. Their passion for conservation and community engagement has helped the gardens flourish into an important and well-loved local landmark.

“Our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do,” Adriana said. “Whether it’s tending to the gardens, running the nursery, or sharing knowledge with visitors, their dedication makes a real impact. We always welcome new volunteers who want to be part of this rewarding work in our community. Even if you can only spare a few hours a month, every bit of help makes a difference.

“By working together, we can ensure Moreton Bay’s natural beauty is preserved for generations to come.”
