Redcliffe Library is more than just a place for books – it’s a hub for creativity and crafting. The Sewing Studio pilot project offers library members an opportunity to bring their needlework projects to life in an inspiring, well-equipped space.
Whether you’re an experienced maker looking to refresh your skills or a complete beginner, the studio provides access to high-quality sewing machines and an overlocker, allowing you to work on your own creative projects.
Mayor Peter Flannery said the initiative reflected City of Moreton Bay’s commitment to fostering creative, community-focused spaces.
“We are proud to focus on making our libraries places where people can learn, be creative and connect with the community,” Mayor Flannery said.
“The Sewing Studio is a fantastic opportunity for people across City of Moreton Bay to access a sewing machine or overlocker and bring their creative ideas to life for free.”
Sew Much More Than Just a Library
To use The Sewing Studio, participants must complete a short induction session. While users are expected to have basic sewing knowledge and work independently, the induction will guide them through how to use the machines and provide an overview of health and safety. Once inducted, members can book time slots to use the sewing machines and overlocker at their convenience.
The Sewing Studio is open to all library members aged 16 and over. If you’re not already a member, joining the library is free and you’ll gain access to The Sewing Studio, as well as a vast collection of books, digital resources and learning opportunities.
Library staff are available to answer questions and provide troubleshooting support, but users are encouraged to work independently. This initiative allows sewing enthusiasts to hone their skills, work on creative projects and connect with other makers in a welcoming and supportive environment.
As the first of its kind in City of Moreton Bay Libraries, The Sewing Studio aims to pave the way for more hands-on, creative learning opportunities within the community.
For beginners or those looking for additional learning opportunities, sewing workshops are also available for inspiration and support.
