Redcliffe Library is bringing the excitement of one of Australia’s premier literary events to the local community with the Sydney Writers’ Festival Live & Local program.

Each May, the Sydney Writers’ Festival celebrates storytelling, books and industry insights with a line-up of renowned authors and thought-provoking discussions. While Redcliffe may be nearly 1000 kilometres away, locals can experience the festival’s highlights through a live-streamed selection of headline events featuring some of the world’s most celebrated writers and thinkers. Best of all, attendance is completely free.

Mayor Peter Flannery said the return of Live & Local reflected City of Moreton Bay’s dedication to making world-class literary events accessible to the community.

“We are excited to see Live & Local return to Redcliffe Library in 2025 after its great success within City of Moreton Bay last year,” Mayor Flannery said.

“This is Australia’s largest celebration of books and ideas and gives our community the opportunity to be inspired by some of the world’s most distinguished authors.

“Live & Local is a free event spanning across four days in May and is a great way to connect with like-minded literary enthusiasts across our City.”

Streamed Author Sessions, Inspiring Conversations

A diverse range of sessions will be streamed, including:

  • You Are Here – Booker Prize-nominated author David Nicholls (One Day, Us) joins Jennifer Byrne in conversation about his new book, You Are Here.
  • The Moriarty Sisters – Jaclyn (Kingdom and Empires series), Liane (Big Little Lies, Nine Perfect Strangers) and Nicola (Every Last Suspect, The Fifth Letter) discuss their international bestsellers, different career paths and screen adaptations.
  • Untrue Crime – Shankari Chandran (Chai Time at Cinnamon Gardens, Unfinished Business), Kate McClymont (investigative journalist with The Sydney Morning Herald) and Sir Ian Rankin (author of the Inspector Rebus series) explore the intersection of fact and fiction in true crime storytelling.
  • Making a Writer – Laureate for Irish Fiction Colm Tóibín (Brooklyn, Long Island) and Booker Prize–shortlisted author Charlotte Wood (Stone Yard Devotional, The Natural Way of Things) discuss what it takes to grow and flourish as a writer, with host Michael Williams.

Attendees can book individual sessions or multiple events across the four days of streaming. Links will be provided for you to attend on your computer or mobile.
