Pontiacs Take Over Redcliffe: Iconic Cars and a Big Record Attempt

The Australian Pontiac Nationals are coming to Redcliffe this month and thinking BIG!

Do you have a Pontiac in the garage?

If yes, you could help the Queensland club outdo the NSW club for the greatest number of Pontiacs at a national gathering! If not, come to Pelican Park and drool over the gorgeous array of American vehicles on display anyway.

President of the Queensland Chapter of the Pontiac Car Club of Australia, Chris Malone, said the Redcliffe area was chosen for the nationals for many reasons.

“South East Queensland has the largest concentration of Pontiacs anywhere in Australia with over 600 registered within a 100-kilometre radius of Redcliffe,” Chris said. “That means it’s easy for many car owners to join us in the record attempt.

“Redcliffe has the feel and look we want for a classic car meet. It’s not a concrete jungle – it’s relaxed and laid back, with beautiful Moreton Bay as a backdrop.

“Proximity to the airport is important too. We have interstate visitors and even people flying in from the United States. The director of the Pontiac Nationals in the USA is coming to see how we Aussies run our version here.”

Classic Cars, Movie Magic, and a Sunday Cruise

Pontiacs were produced by General Motors from 1926 to 2010 and their history is defined by a range of sporty vehicles.

As well as fans of classic cars, movie buffs and TV aficionados will also get a kick out of the cars on display. There are very accurate replicas of the Monkeemobile from The Monkees TV show, KITT from Knight Rider (1980s version), and of course, it wouldn’t be a Pontiac show without a sleek black Trans Am with a golden eagle on the bonnet, like Burt Reynolds drove in Smokey and the Bandit.

After the show, many cars will cruise to Scarborough and then back down the Esplanade – so keep your eyes open for a cavalcade on Sunday afternoon.

Don’t forget! – If you own a Pontiac, Oakland or GMC, then the Pontiac Car Club would love you to join them on the day.

Entry is free. Visit 2025 Australian Pontiac Nationals on facebook here.
