Do you have dreams of captivating an audience on stage, or maybe you love belting out a power ballad in the shower or car?
City of Moreton Bay’s free City Sings workshops, running between 26 April and 4 June at locations including Redcliffe, Deception Bay and North Lakes, might be just what you’re looking for.
City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said he encouraged everyone to get involved.
“City Sings workshops offer a supportive and welcoming environment that makes group harmonising a fun and friendly activity,” he said. “Whether you’re a seasoned singer or keen to try something new, every voice is welcome.”
Throughout the workshops, facilitators will guide participants through vocal techniques and teach a selection of uplifting songs, all while introducing the joy of group harmonising. Each session is designed to be supportive and welcoming, building confidence and connection as voices come together.
Participants will learn three songs over three workshops, culminating in the City Sings Concert at Redcliffe Entertainment Centre on 14 June, part of Council’s Make Music Month program.
Local Sessions: From Carnatic Traditions to Classic Anthems
Each facilitator will bring their own style and expertise. Menaka Thomas, facilitator of the North Lakes sessions, said she was excited to share her love of cultural music with Moreton Bay locals.
“I’m really looking forward to sharing the richness and beauty of the South Indian Carnatic vocal tradition in a way that feels welcoming and accessible to everyone,” Menaka said. “More than anything, I’m excited for people to discover something new, have fun with their voices, and build a sense of connection and community through singing.”
Meanwhile, Andy Peacock, leading the Redcliffe workshops, promises a fun, social approach to classic favourites.
“In my sessions, we’ll be singing classic tunes: California Dreamin’ by The Mamas & The Papas, the Bee Gees classic To Love Somebody and the rousing Crowded House anthem Don’t Dream It’s Over,” Andy said. “I can’t wait to bring these timeless songs to life as a group in a simple and social way. If you can sing in the car or the shower, you can sing with us!”
