Redcliffe businessman Jeremy Hassell has never been one who shied away from a challenge or two. He proved that as a teenager. He developed his successful Redcliffe-based metal fabrication business, Weldwerx, in 2006 at the age of 17, under his father’s Kippa-Ring home.
Racing Beginnings
Two years earlier, as a 15-year-old Clontarf Beach State High School student, and encouraged by his father, he commenced what was to become yet another career direction. He developed into a racing car driver. This had its beginnings with him racing a four-cylinder Mazda 808 around the Archerfield Speedway racing circuit in suburban Brisbane and winning races. By age nineteen, he had completed a boiler-making apprenticeship and had built and commenced racing his own so-called ‘Super Street Sedan’, originally a Mitsubishi Scorpion, which, in his spare time, he chased podium placements in local and interstate speedway meets. By now, the racing car bug had truly consumed him.
At this tender age, Jeremy was off to the United States, where he worked and raced with a Sprint Car team and gained valuable experience. Back in Redcliffe, he used his American experiences to win back-to-back Queensland Speedcar Club Championships and the prestigious Queensland Speedcar Title for 2007. The following years saw him continue to develop his Weldwerx metal fabrication business and, whenever he could, race under his newly formed racing banner Team Bullfrog. But the passing of his mother had an enormous effect on him for a time. But subsequently undeterred, he dedicated his racing triumphs to her.
“She always believed in me and my dream of winning at Bathurst!” he said.
His dream finally came true last October when he and his Team Bullfrog Torana took first place in the Pro Sport Class. But it’s not over. Jeremy Hassell has winning plans for 2026 and beyond.
