If you want to fill the long summer days, then Redcliffe and the surrounding areas offer lots of kid-friendly activities.

Whether you’re looking for creative indoor fun, outdoor adventures or free community events, there’s something for every family.

City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said school holidays were buzzing with free and low-cost activities to keep the whole family entertained over the Christmas break.

“From our Healthy and Active holidays program, which is perfect for keeping the kids moving, to library initiatives like the Summer Reading Club, and creative workshops at our art galleries, we encourage everyone to join in and find something they enjoy,” Mayor Flannery said.

For a cultural outing, head to the Redcliffe Art Gallery, which often holds family-friendly exhibitions and art activities during the school break. One event includes the Soft Sculpture Creatures workshop on 9 January, teaching simple hand sewing.

“Kids can let their creativity run wild by sewing their very own furry friend or friendly critter at the Soft Sculpture Creatures Workshop,” Mayor Flannery said.

A kids’ painting workshop, Me in the Landscape, will be held on 14 January.

Division 6 Councillor, Karl Winchester, said participants could put their own spin on their artworks by centring themselves in a landscape they connected with.

“We love sparking creativity through our art exhibitions, and this workshop allows attendees to draw inspiration from artist Sally M Nangala Mulda’s painting in the Two Girls from Amoonguna exhibition, which depicts her life in Alice Springs,” Cr Winchester said.

Another option for children who love getting creative is The Craft Haven at Kippa-Ring, offering activities and workshops like pottery painting and festive crafts. On 13 December, there’s a special Swiftmas Paint Party, celebrating Taylor Swift.

Outdoor Fun, Markets & Local Events

Meanwhile, Redcliffe’s coastline offers endless outdoor fun, with days at Suttons Beach, Settlement Cove Lagoon and the Redcliffe Jetty, where you can stop at the many playgrounds.

On Sundays, the Redcliffe Markets have food trucks and stalls – perfect for finding Christmas or New Year gifts.

Whether you plan a full day out or short morning adventures, you’ll find plenty to keep the kids entertained all summer long.
