Musical lovers, this one is for you. The award-winning show Jesus Christ Superstar will take the stage at the Redcliffe Entertainment Centre this month, bringing Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic rock opera to local audiences.
Madeleine Johns, President of Redcliffe Musical Theatre, said choosing to put on this production was an easy decision.
“We decided to do Jesus Christ Superstar as it is a timeless musical, and we love to present rock musicals – this being the original rock musical which was first performed in the 70s,” she said.
“Our nine-piece band will be led by local guitar maestro Lachy Stewart. We cast the show in November and have been rehearsing since early December. The cast will also feature 30 local performers.”
A Rock Concert Meets Musical Theatre
Audiences can look forward to hearing new talent, with the role of Jesus played by Jeandre Le Roux. This is the first time he has performed in a musical.
“Classically trained, his voice will absolutely blow our audiences away, and we can’t wait for Redcliffe to hear him,” Madeleine said.
“Jesus Christ Superstar will use one set integrated in with the band, who will be on stage and visible throughout the performances, which adds a lot more excitement to the production.
“It becomes a cross between a rock concert and a musical theatre production. We think our audience will love this presentation.”
