A silent disco typically involves enjoying your choice of music across multiple channels through wireless headphones while still sharing a dance floor, and Team Musicare has adapted this innovative entertainment model as part of a free, regular community event.
Team Musicare’s silent discos are safe and sensory-friendly spaces where people of all abilities can appreciate music and have the option to participate in dance and social connection at their own comfort level.
According to Team Musicare CEO Breanna Kars, the disability services and support organisation uses music and creative technology as tools for inclusion, with the silent disco format allowing participants to engage at their own pace, control volume, and take breaks when needed.
“Hosting the monthly silent disco at our space allows people to experience that approach in a low-pressure environment and often becomes a stepping stone into other creative supports we offer,” Breanna said.
For attendee Shawn Cook, the event is about enjoying not only the tunes via the headphones but also the comfort provided by Team Musicare’s unique setting.
“Once I started dancing and got into the flow, I really began to enjoy myself – it honestly felt like the best disco,” Shawn said.
Getting to meet new people and make friends was another element that Shawn found rewarding in the experience, with his budding relationship with the organisation continuing from there.
“I hadn’t been involved with Team Musicare before, but after my experience at the Silent Disco, I’ve now booked in for one-on-one mentor sessions, and I’m really looking forward to creating my own music with their help,” he said.
Event Details, NDIS Support and How to Register
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), with which Team Musicare is partnered, may provide eligible individuals with the funding required to access one or more of the organisation’s range of programs.

There is no fee for individuals who wish to attend a silent disco session, but registration is mandatory (limited headphones are available), so ensure your booking is made via Eventbrite.
