Redcliffe’s own Richard Lancaster is signing off from filmmaking with his final short film, Mirror Mirror – a 20-minute production he calls his “last hurrah” and “swan song.”
He said the movie was short and hopefully sweet.
“At 88 years of age, I will now pass the camera over to younger would-be Steven Spielbergs,” he said.
Mirror Mirror tells the story of Kimberley, a woman reeling from her husband David’s infidelity. The film stars Caroline Moon as Kimberley and Nicholas Hurst as David.
A Career of Redcliffe Storytelling
Lancaster’s career spans decades of community-focused productions. His early work in the 1980s includes Open That Door, a management training film starring Lindsay Fox, Greg Chappell and Ainsley Gotto, and The Joh Tapes on Leadership, a seven-part documentary series with then-Premier Sir Joh Bjelke Petersen, now archived in the Queensland State Library.
In later years, he produced and directed the TV series Morning Gossip and wrote, produced and directed another TV series called High Time, followed by three feature-length mockumentaries – Mutiny on the Gayundah, The Great Shove Off and The Third Commandant – all starring local Redcliffe talent and shown to full houses at the Redcliffe Entertainment Centre.
He also co-wrote, produced and directed Redcliffe’s high-rating community radio serial, The Dugongs of Macarthur Bay, and wrote and published eight books in recent years.
“In all instances,” Richard said, “the movies, radio serial, and books have been Redcliffe community-based productions, using local Redcliffe community talent!”
