Appearing recently on Channel 7’s The Voice, local singer sisters Vixens of Fall (Nina, Wren and LuLu) might not have had the host’s chairs turn, but they continue to turn things up nonetheless.
With numerous gigs (and a debut album) already under their boho country belts, the trio will soon perform at a number of well-known events and festivals, such as the Gympie Muster, the Urban Country Music Festival, Savannah in the Round and Honky Tonks.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Nina said that they were enjoying a wonderful level of support from people but that alongside the incredible positives, the “not-so-positives” were inevitable.
“Naturally, not everyone is going to love us because we simply didn’t impress them much (thank you, Shania Twain) or understand certain aspects of reality TV, and that is okay,” Nina said.
Country Roots, Inspirations and Next Steps
The sisters are inspired by the storytelling of country music, in particular the strains of The Chicks, Miranda Lambert, and Lainey Wilson, and credit their musical foundations to the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, and “the absolute powerhouse that is Dolly Parton,” citing a “whirlwind of genres” that shaped not only their sound but also “us, as people”.
Character building is important to the band, with Nina saying, “Mama taught us well,” especially in that “people come into your life for a reason – a season or a lifetime,” and “everything truly does happen for a reason” (echoed in their song The Long Game).
“We plucked up the courage to sing one of our favourite songs to four people that we’ve looked up to since we were young, but it was all about the huge amount of people behind those four huge, red chairs that were all up on their feet, cheering us on, and who were having the time of their lives with us,” Nina said.
The sisters encouraged everyone to listen to their EP, A Love Like Ours, and their debut album, Magick in the Chaos, and invited people to come to their upcoming live shows, detailed on social media (search ‘Vixens of Fall) and their website.
