Stacked Stones a Stirring Sight

Stacking rocks in coastal and other locations has been something we have seen for centuries; however, a Redcliffe local has put a twist on the tradition in forming stone birds and other animals.

The stone formations created a stimulating sight along Scarborough’s shore and sparked many people’s imaginations.

A concern for safety has seen the stones removed, but the local resident responsible for the structures is devising a new, non-problematic plan to continue.

It’s something that’s, for now, under wraps – as is the identity (at least, officially) of the individual responsible.

A Community Connection

Before the rocks were removed, the incognito creator (sometimes referred to as the Banksy of Redcliffe) said that the mystery surrounding it all was a part of the fun, but there were other unanticipated effects.

“I’ve noticed it resulted in a lot of people engaging with each other, which is one thing I think we have been lacking since the COVID times,” he said.

Starting with one stone bird, the anonymous architect had gone on to create an “aviary” of designs, even taking requests from the public to fashion their favourite creatures.

“The number of people that stopped and said thank you is quite remarkable,” he said.
