Local business owners are invited to a bay cruise hosted by the Moreton Maritime Alliance on Friday, 31 October, to explore tourism opportunities related to the 2032 Olympic Games.

The cruise will gather key industry figures to discuss how local businesses can benefit from the international spotlight the Games will bring.

Director of Moreton Maritime Alliance (MMA), Brad Flynn, said the event encouraged early planning and collaboration across the region’s tourism and maritime sectors.

“Departing from Newport, the cruise will come around the top of the peninsula and down along the foreshore, giving people a different view of our unique paradise,” Brad said. “As we travel, different speakers will highlight the various opportunities as we head towards the Olympics.”

He said the Games offered an opportunity to have the Peninsula exposed to the world through visitors and media coverage.

“‘What is the message we want our visitors to take home and tell their family and friends?’ is an important question we as a community need to be thinking about and planning for now,” he said.

He added that the Scarborough Harbour upgrade was “a massive opportunity to present the harbour as the jewel in the crown of Moreton Bay.”

The Opportunities of the 2032 Olympics

“The bigger opportunity is that international teams are expected to invest in creating their own cultural and supporter ‘houses’ across the city… these vibrant hubs… inject millions into the local economy… and leave behind upgraded facilities for community use long after the closing ceremony,” he added.

The MMA is an industry association representing the Bay’s maritime businesses.
