Moreton Bay’s Older Women’s Network (OWN) is not new to the Peninsula, but it has recently experienced a rebranding and relocation to the Redcliffe RSL Club, continuing to celebrate the contributions and rights of women navigating their “next stage of life.”

As part of a network of branches, the group provides trips and outings, coffee and lunch, creative crafts, movies and theatre, book clubs, walking groups, and regular information sessions (featuring guest speakers).

According to Gail Becke, convenor at OWN Redcliffe Peninsula Branch, the group is important in strengthening the community, with the recent move being of logistical benefit.

“The relocation from the Woody Point Hall to the RSL Club was driven by the need for a more central, accessible venue,” Ms Becke said.

Building Connection and Community for Women

Continuing to hold their monthly meetings with guest speakers at the RSL, the talks are described as “targeted, engaging, authoritative, informative, varied and fun.”

“At our meetings and across our activities, we emphasise friendship, peer support and active community participation,” Ms Becke said.

OWN is a self-help organisation run entirely by volunteers and is open to women of all ages.
