Crime authors Mercedes Mercier and Georgia Harper are set to appear together at Redcliffe Library this month, offering readers a glimpse into their latest novels.

The free event, part of City of Moreton Bay’s Meet the Author series, will take place on Friday, 15 May.

Mercedes, an Adelaide-based author with experience in the criminal justice system, said she was looking forward to sharing the wild, rugged beauty of Kangaroo Island, where her novel The Couples Retreat is set.

“I can’t wait to discuss my two very different protagonists: an uncertain rookie cop on her first posting out of the Academy, running from her past; and a feisty, sharply-observant company owner who is reluctantly attending a hedonistic weekend away with her husband’s privileged, entitled uni friends at a luxury beachfront mansion,” Mercedes said.

Exploring New Crime Stories and Big Questions

Georgia, whose debut novel won Best Debut Book at the 2025 Davitt Awards, will discuss her new release, Dove. The novel’s main character poses a question to women, ‘What would you do if you had a whole day on earth free of men?’

Mercedes said she loved visiting and speaking at local libraries “as they are always attended by passionate, engaged readers – my favourite kind of people!”

“Libraries are the lifeblood of communities, one of the few places left where people aren’t expected to spend money, and an important way for people from all walks of life to find connection and belonging,” she said.
