A moving story of resilience, courage and finding a voice will be shared with the community at a special book launch this month.
A new memoir by Redcliffe writer Lee Bird will be officially launched at Reid’s Place in Scarborough on 9 May, offering the community an opportunity to gather for an afternoon of storytelling, reflection and connection.
The Girl at 158 is described as a deeply personal account that explores the lasting impact of childhood trauma and the long journey toward healing. Through courage and honesty, Lee shares her experiences growing up in an abusive home and the strength it took to eventually speak out.
Writing the book required Lee to revisit painful memories, but it also became an important step in reclaiming her voice. By telling her story publicly, she hopes the book will help others who may be carrying their own hidden burdens.
Sharing Stories, Healing, and Connection Through Writing
“Stories have the power to change lives,” Lee said. “If even one person reads this book and feels less alone, then sharing my story will have been worth it.”
The official launch promises to be more than a traditional book signing. The event will include an author talk, readings from the memoir and opportunities for guests to meet Lee and learn more about the story behind the book.
Community members, readers and local writers are all invited to attend what is expected to be a meaningful and inspiring afternoon. Guests will also have the opportunity to purchase signed copies of The Girl at 158.
The dress code is ‘black and white – formal garden party’. Seats are limited, and guests must RSVP by emailing katy.m@scribbly.com.au
