Join Myeloma Australia’s My Greatest Walk to support those impacted by myeloma and raise awareness.
On Sunday, 30 March, the annual walk will take place at more than 30 locations across Australia, with a local walk returning to Woody Point.
Event organiser, Christine Bates, said Woody Point was a lovely area for patients with myeloma to meet for such a great cause.
“I was approached by Myeloma Australia to be an events organiser three years ago to start their annual walks,” Chrissy said. “I hold social get-togethers for myeloma patients and in the cooler months, we meet in the same area for a chance for patients and carers to speak to others going through the same cancer.”
Every Registration Helps
Myeloma is an incurable blood cancer affecting 22,000 Australians, with 27% of patients passing away within 18 months of diagnosis. It is also the most expensive blood cancer to treat.
Every registration and donation made for My Greatest Walk will help provide essential services and resources for myeloma patients, including myeloma nurses.
“The community can show their support by getting their family together to come for a walk with us,” Chrissy said. “The more people, the more we will stand out and raise the much-needed awareness.”
Participants should meet near the rotundas on the bridge side of the car park opposite Bramble Bowls Club. The walk heads to the Woody Point jetty and back, with a rest stop near the rotundas. Walkers can continue to Pelican Park car park before returning to the rotundas for afternoon tea. Please bring a small plate of food.
Registrations are $20. To register, go to My Greatest Walk and scroll down for the Woody Point event.
