A warm, sunny day, the sound of laughter and a big scoop of homemade gelato? It’s no surprise that Miss Sprinkles Gelato has become a must-visit spot in Scarborough.
Since opening in March last year, owner Nicola White has been serving up handcrafted gelato with a passion that runs deep.
“My background is many things, however, I got into gelato about six years ago and never looked back!” Nicola said. “It is very creative and fun and the making of gelato is quite unique. That’s what I love about it. It stands out from anything mass-produced.”
With a team of up to eight, Miss Sprinkles Gelato caters to locals and visitors alike, offering a wide variety of menu items, including dairy, non-dairy, vegan-friendly, sugar-free and gluten-free treats. While you can’t go wrong with any of their flavour selections, for Nicola, stracciatella is the absolute standout, embodying the traditional essence of gelato.
“Stracciatella is my favourite,” she said. “I like it as it’s more of a traditional gelato with vanilla and chocolate fondant throughout, creating the chocolate chip.”
Among the other crowd-pleasing menu items are sorbets and cakes, not to mention the cherry swirl and chocolate gelato, which are always in high demand. Beyond the flavours, Nicola said that what truly brings her joy is something much simpler.
“Seeing the customers happy!” she said. “To see customers’ faces when they see all the desserts lined up and can’t decide – the kids being so excited!”
A Community-Focused Gelato Haven
While Miss Sprinkles Gelato continues to delight locals with sweet treats, behind the scenes the shop also takes pride in supporting the community.
“We have already sponsored baseball, netball, local raffles,” Nicola said. “We also sponsor cycling, as my partner is a cyclist and really anything to do with helping out where we can, we are always open to.”
Whether you’re a regular or a tourist, Miss Sprinkles Gelato is the perfect place to indulge in a sweet treat. With its welcoming atmosphere and ever-changing selection, there’s always something to make you feel like a kid in a candy shop.
Miss Sprinkles Gelato is open seven days a week, from 10am to 8.30pm (Sunday to Thursday), and 10am to 9pm (Friday and Saturday).
