Harmony Week, running from 15 to 21 March, is a time to embrace inclusivity, respect and the vibrant diversity of our community. As part of the celebrations, City of Moreton Bay is hosting a series of activities designed to inspire connection and creativity.
Among the week’s highlights is Making Time on 15 March, a guided art workshop led by artist and expressive arts therapist Tira Dowling at Redcliffe Art Gallery. The first session of Making Time, titled Exploring Dimensions, invites participants to experiment with abstract mixed media techniques. Attendees will layer different materials in a mindful, expressive process designed to spark creativity and self-discovery.
“Art is at the core of our being,” Tira said. “Being creative is the first language we learn and the language that supports connection and vitality, not just to ourselves, but to our community and way of being in the world.
“The Making Time series is an opportunity for participants to find valuable connections in themselves and each other. It is a creative space where individuals are free to explore their creative self without judgement. As a result, participants build confidence, self-esteem, resilience and flexible thinking, plus feel a sense of value in self and belonging.”
The workshop isn’t just about creating art – it’s an opportunity to slow down, tune into your intuition and create something uniquely personal. Suitable for all skill levels, it offers a relaxing space where creativity can flow freely. All materials are provided, but participants are encouraged to bring an apron or wear clothes they don’t mind getting messy.
More Ways to Celebrate Harmony Week
Mayor Peter Flannery encouraged everybody to take part in City of Moreton Bay’s Harmony Week activities.
“Harmony Week is all about community participation and it serves as an important reminder that everybody belongs,” Mayor Flannery said.
In addition to Making Time, Harmony Week features a range of free tea ceremonies and matcha masterclasses at different libraries across the region, so you can immerse yourself in this centuries-old Japanese tradition and experience this special tea ritual.
Tickets to Making Time are $15 and bookings are essential. To book, go to www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/Galleries-Museums/Events/RAG/Making-Time-Redcliffe
