Do you remember where you were the first time you heard a Dire Straits song?
Whether you heard their first hit (Sultans of Swing) on the radio back in 1978, put 20 cents in the jukebox, or grew up listening to your mum and dad’s favourite music, no doubt that distinctive blend of rock, jazz and blues left a lasting impression.
It has been over 30 years since Dire Straits toured Australia and it is not likely to happen again, but fortunately, you can enjoy the next best thing with the top-class performers in Money for Nothin’ Dire Straits Tribute Show. The six-piece live band is well-known for their uncanny ability to recreate the iconic sound of Dire Straits, capturing their essence and delivering every riff and solo with passion and precision.
A Tribute Show Worth Seeing
Leader of the tribute band, Terry McMahon, whose guitar skills and vocals are said to mirror that of the legendary Mark Knopfler, said the band are looking forward to revisiting Redcliffe.
“The guys in the band are really looking forward to a local gig!” Terry said. “We have been on tour interstate in recent times, so it will be good to return home and play to the locals. We have always enjoyed great support in the Redcliffe area.
“The last time we played in Redcliffe, we played local clubs. The show has now grown into a theatre environment really well, as it allows us to showcase the amazing songs in the Dire Straits catalogue, including some of the moody songs like Private Investigations and Brothers in Arms – songs that come alive in a theatre. We play all the hits and love to engage the audience to sing along and have a great time.”
The setlist will delight and surprise with some early tracks being covered as well as huge hits, including Sultans of Swing, Romeo and Juliet, Walk of Life, Lady Writer, Your Latest Trick, Tunnel of Love and many more.
Tickets cost $69 – get them here.
