The Breakfast Club has finally been awarded a permanent home, right in the heart of Redcliffe.

The Peninsula Support Hub officially opened for service on Monday, 28 July, and the hardworking volunteers couldn’t be happier.

President of The Breakfast Club, Michelle Gilchrist, said the construction and opening of the Peninsula Support Hub was “a dream come true”.

“The Breakfast Club has been in operation for over 20 years, and over that time has moved to various locations to provide services,” Michelle said.

“It will be our long-awaited home and a recognition of all the hard work put in by the volunteers who came before us. It is a purpose-built facility that will see The Breakfast Club well into the future.”

The Peninsula Support Hub will have many more features and amenities that will better support the most vulnerable people in our community.

Services and Community Support at the Peninsula Support Hub

“The new building has a fully-equipped commercial kitchen where volunteers will be able to provide food and meals for our community,” Michelle said.

“It has showers and laundry facilities, which will be operated in partnership with Orange Sky Australia. There are lockers for the storage of personal items.

“It will be an exciting place to work and provide support to community members in need. The Salvation Army will be right next door and will be providing extra support with housing and homelessness services.”

The Breakfast Club are providing the same services at the new location.

“Once we have settled in and see what is most needed by the community, we will look at increasing our services,” Michelle said. “However, this will be dependent on volunteer availability.

“We will be open Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 7am to 8am for breakfast, Tuesday and Thursday, 4pm to 5.30pm for dinner, and Tuesday and Thursday, 9am to 1pm for our hub service, which provides emergency food and support services.

“Donations can be dropped off on Tuesday and Thursday, 9am to 5pm.

“We are extremely grateful to the City of Moreton Bay and the state government for providing this wonderful new building and allowing The Breakfast Club to have a place to call home.”
