One local artist is showcasing her watercolour artwork to the community in her first-ever Redcliffe solo exhibition.

The watercolour artist, based at Woody Point, will be displaying her artwork in an exhibition titled Just Add Water, appearing at the Redcliffe Old Fire Station Art Gallery from 11 June to 6 July.

Artist Sue-Jane Leckie said this would be her first solo exhibition on the Peninsula and that she was very excited.

“As my first solo exhibition here at Redcliffe, I am excited to show my paintings to friends who have been part of my life for many years before painting and have no idea what I have been up to in the studio,” Sue-Jane said.

“(The exhibition) is an adventure. I love my finished paintings and can’t wait to see them hung in the beautiful gallery…I have a strong belief that one should, every single day, do things that you want to do, whenever possible, accept opportunities, and not wait.”

Sue-Jane said there would be a lot to explore during her exhibition.

“My paintings are inspired by nature, what I see when walking in the bush, mostly or just beautiful things around me,” she said.

“(People can expect) lots of eucalypts, varied techniques and style, colour and light.

“There is a lot of badness and sadness in the world; my paintings are full of light and colour, goodness and gladness, and it is this which I share with my art.”

Sharing Artistic Knowledge with the Community

Among her busy artist life of creating and selling, Sue-Jane also facilitates art classes in Redcliffe.

“Sharing my art experience through classes gives me great satisfaction. I love to pass on my enjoyment of painting to others,” she said.

“Currently, I am tutoring an intermediate watercolour class as a part of two rotating tutors at the Redcliffe Art Society’s Fire Station Gallery and studios at Redcliffe.

“My first formal art lessons were in pastel with the Peninsula’s Tricia Reust.

“I am hugely grateful to Tricia Reust and Svetlana Trefilova, who have taught me so much. So generous with their knowledge and such dear friends.”
